The name
Venture Social Work is intentional. It’s inspired by the intersection of venture capital and tech — industries that embrace risk, disrupt the status quo, and go bold. Putting differences aside for a moment, the iterative, daring, and interdisciplinary energy driving constant innovation in those spaces
does have something to offer social work.
Social work is rooted in care, reflection, and ethics. We hold space for human complexity in a way few other fields can. But risk-aversion can limit our power to shape systems, leading to hesitating and stagnating instead of designing, building, testing, deploying and iterating.
VSW invites social workers to do both — to hold our values and innovate with novelty. To challenge injustice by sharpening the practical tools needed to lead transformative change. Maybe even creating new, never-before-seen tools in the process.
That’s the heart of Social Work Macrotations (SWMR), the cornerstone of this platform. These interdisciplinary ‘rotations’ are designed to strengthen the muscles traditional programs often leave underdeveloped: innovation, strategy, tech, operations, finance, systems thinking, design and more.
